Ukrainian elections: the finale or a pause before the third round?

The presidential elections have come to an end in the Ukraine. Certainly, the legal process may be considered complete only after the inauguration, but now there is no doubt that it will be the leader of the Party of Regions Viktor Yanukovych.

The presidential elections have come to an end in the Ukraine. Certainly, the legal process may be considered complete only after the inauguration, but now there is no doubt that it will be the leader of the Party of Regions Viktor Yanukovych.

Interfax reports, according to the data obtained from 99,97% protocols from election commissions of the Ukraine, on February 7 in the presidential election 48,95% (12,47 million) voted for Yanukovych, Yulia Tymoshenko got 45.47% (11, 59 million people) of the votes. 4,36% (1,12 million) did not support either candidate.

On Tuesday, the president of Russia Dmitry Medvedev in a telephone conversation congratulated Viktor Yanukovych on his success in the elections, - the press service of Russia's president reports. Thus, Russia has fully recognized the Ukrainian elections.

International observers share the same opinion. The President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek, upon opening the evening plenary session in Strasbourg on Monday, congratulated Ukrainians with free and fair elections. OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Joao Soares, in his turn, called the the second round of the elections "an impressive manifestation of democratic elections."

According to the head of the delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly Assen Agov, "Ukraine sets a good example of democratic elections." They were well organized and truly competitive, offering voters a clear choice. Now the most important part is the creation of unambiguous rules and eliminating failures in the law system long before the next election, to avoid uncertainty, which was observed in these elections, "- summed up the head of the observer mission of the Bureau for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), Heidi Tagliavini. Thus, the second round of the Ukrainian presidential elections is unanimously recognized by Russia, EU and NATO. It would seem that only the inauguration is left. But it will take some time before the inauguration. How long it takes depends on court trials, since Viktor Yanukovych's opponent, Yulia Tymoshenko, as early as Monday evening, when it became clear that the gap in votes is small, but compelling, refused to recognize the election results and reported to seek the third round in court. This decision was confirmed on Tuesday by the deputy chairman of the BYuT faction, the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Elena Shustik.

All are concerned with the issue: shall the trial be the limit, or is the Ukraine waiting for a new Maidan? Many politicians and experts are inclined to accept the first option. For example, former Polish Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych believes that the new "orange" revolution is not possible: "Firstly, the Ukraine itself is different and is not ready to protest and sleep outside for the sake of Timoshenko. Secondly, the West is also different and does not intend, as in 2004, to intervene in the situation." A similar view is shared by the ex-presidential candidate in the Ukraine, leader of the «Strong Ukraine" Sergey Tigipko: “The fate of the election is solved. Undoubtedly, there will be applications of Yulia Tymoshenko to the courts, but the new Maidan is not going to happen. "

But the political life of Ukraine has always been rich in surprises, sometimes impossible of any predictions ...
