Contribution of Belarus and the Union State to Human Traffic Counteraction to Be Discussed by Seminar Participants in Minsk

Today the whole world is anxious about the increasing number of human traffic victims. People are held in labour and sexual servitude, become test material for medical experiments and donor manipulations. Particular anxiety is caused by the fact that people are cheated into this business. Quite often people go abroad for the purpose of getting education or earning money and have no thought that eventually they will be left destitute and without documents.

Belarus and the Union State make great efforts to solve this problem. The society has united to prevent and counteract this evil. The main issues which the participants of the seminar “Contribution of Belarus and the Union State to human traffic, illegal migration and related unlawful deeds counteraction” will discuss in Minsk are: socio-economic policy of Belarus and Russia intended to create favourable conditions for people so that they won’t leave the country and won’t become human traffic victims; protection of children and students visiting foreign countries in order to improve their health and get education; the requirements to be met by foreign citizens who want to adopt children; actions of law machinery taken to reveal and suppress human traffic crimes.

It is already the 18th session of the standing seminar for mass media “Urgent Issues of Integration between Belarus and Russia”. The event is scheduled for 3rd-6th July 2008 and will take place in Minsk. About 40 Belarusian, Russian and Union mass media are to take part in it.

The seminar is held by the Standing Committee of the Union State and Public Institution “National Press Centre of the Republic of Belarus” under the aegis of the Belarusian Embassy in the Russian Federation.

For four days the journalists will be participating in round-table conferences covering legal, socio-economic and international aspects of human traffic counteraction, discussing the issues of crime prevention and detection. They will also visit a number of facilities belonging to the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, State Frontier Committee of the Republic of Belarus, Ministry of Labour and Social Security of the Republic of Belarus, Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus, and Minsk Regional Executive Committee.
