International frontier meeting on illegal migration will be held in Minsk

On March, 23-24 there will be International frontier conference held in Minsk, where issues on illegal migration will be discussed. That was reported by State frontier committee press-service.

It should be pointed out that illegal migration is becoming more serious reason for instability in the -world. Drug and human trafficking and other forms of across-the –border crimes that accompany illegal migration are on a dramatically high increase. Today not a single state can effectively resist the frontier threats alone. It is necessary to build-up joint efforts on frontier cooperation improvement and effective implementation of already signed agreements is needed to be carried out.

According to the press-service the meeting participants will discuss in details the issues of mutual interest and will exchange the information and experiences concerning raw problems in the sphere of illegal migration resistance and will establish useful contacts and work out new and more efficient ways of solving modern challenges coming from international across-the-border crimes.

Besides, on March, 24 there will be a press-conference for mass media on the conference results.

We would remind that International frontier conference is an advisory forum for the heads of frontier agencies from more than 60 states that was created in 1992. Executive directors and representatives of such international organizations as Interpol, Europol, Borderpol, Frontex, IOM, UN HCR and OSCE also participate in its activity. Belarus has participated in this forum since 1994.

The result of international recognition of the effective efforts made by our country in reference to the fight against international migration has become the fact that in 2008 Belarus has been entrusted to head the working group of International frontier conference “On the issues of illegal migration”.
