Ivan Bambiza, the Deputy Secretary of the Union State, has reported that the fourth programme for joint works by Belarus and Russia to overcome the consequences of the Chernobyl catastrophe will rely on raising awareness of ‘best practice’ appropriate to the affected area.

Secretary of the Union State welcomes organisers and participants in the ‘Naval Stalingrad’ campaign
The ‘Naval Stalingrad’ military and patriotic event involving both Belarusian and Russian seamen took place in Belarus and Russia between 14 and 21 October. The campaign is part of a patriotic project called ‘The Naval Brotherhood is Inviolable!’. The Secretary of the Union State welcomed those involved in organising and taking part in the commemorative event.

Secretary of the Union State welcomes participants and organisers of the Russian national forum of student groups
The Russian national forum of student groups has started in Sochi. Over one thousand students from 72 Russian regions, together with previous particiipants, colleagues from the CIS and representatives of employers and the State authorities attended the forum. Grigory Rapota, the Secretary of the Union State, welcomed the forum participants.

Parliamentary Assembly deputies to discuss Union State’s economic policy
A session of the Commission for Economic Policy of the Parliamentary Assembly will be held in Minsk on 21 October 2013 at 12.00 (Government House, office 546). The session will be attended by the Parliamentary Assembly deputies, representatives of the Permanent Committee of the Union State and ministries and departments of Belarus and Russia together with representatives of State customers and the contractors involved in Union State’s programmes – heads of leading Russian and Belarusian institutes and universities.

Children’s creative groups have taken part in the marathon of information activities which has been held in various regions of the Republic of Belarus as part of the framework of the ‘Young Journalists of Belarus and Russia on behalf of the Union State 2013’ project. The results of the selection stages of the ‘Letter to My Friend’ contest have been announced and the Union State’s judges have started to evaluate these finalists.

On 4 November the Belarusian-Russian Youth Symphony Orchestra will deliver its final concerts in the S. I. Taneev Concert Hall in Kaluga, one of the largest economic and cultural cities of the Central Federal District of Russia.

Union State border security programme is implemented successfully
At the end of the meeting of the Collegium of the Border Committee in Sochi, Grigory Rapota, the Secretary of the Union State, reported to the RIA Novosti that the programme for strengthening Union State border security until 2016 is being implemented successfully.

‘Young Journalists of Belarus and Russia on behalf of the Union State – a Union State’ Permanent Committee information project
An information project run by the Permanent Committee of the Union State has now been completed. Called ‘Young Journalists of Belarus and Russia on behalf of the Union State’ it involved thousands of young people from different cities, small towns and villages.

Belarusian and Russian ministers of sport sign joint programme for development of physical culture and sport in 2013-2014
On 8 October Minsk hosted a joint meeting of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus and the Ministry of Sport of the Russian Federation. At the meeting Alexander Shamko, the Minister of Sport for Belarus, and Vitaly Mutko, the Minister of Sport for Russia, signed a programme of cooperation in sport and physical culture for 2013-2014.
